Telangana government considering free vaccine for all from May 1

Hyderabad: To ensure that the COVID-19 vaccination reaches everyone faster, the government of Telangana is considering giving the dosages out for free to all the eligible people from May 1.

It has been learnt that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is currently looking over the population demographics and the requirement of vaccines and also the sourcing need of the vials required for the vaccination drives. Vaccines like the Russian Sputnik and (US) Pfizer are likely to enter the Indian market soon.

KCR after talking with top officials came to a conclusion that the expenditure which would require for vaccines will be around Rs 1600 crore for the state alone, as the age group of 18-45 population alone are almost two crore, out of Telangana’s total population of four crore.

And if we add the rest of the population which hasn’t been vaccinated yet, which includes all adults above the age of 45, the expenditure will be higher for the government to handle it alone. Officials are currently working on the proper dynamics and statistics for everyone to get the best treatment soon and for everything to get back to normal, sources mentioned.

Telangana has been showing a lot of progress with providing vaccines to all, as they set a record on Friday by administering vaccines to over two lakh people in their inoculation programme which launched on January 26. The other states who have let go of the charges and are providing free COVID 19 vaccinations are Delhi, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Punjab for the people above the age of 18.
