Did you know that not sleeping at night could KILL you…?

As someone who often suffers from sleeplessness due to various factors. I was scrolling through the internet when I came across an article that truly shocked me about the real side effects of not sleeping, the major ones were a surprise to me. I never thought you could develop serious health issues from not sleeping.

Coronary Heart Disease

It was shocking to learn that a side effect of getting less than seven hours of sleep every might could result in such a severe condition. Coronary Heart Disease happens when the arteries that are meant to give the body oxygen are damaged. This can result in many different medical conditions including cardiac arrest and angina.

This is obviously one of the most extreme side effects and can only happen if the lack of sleep is continual over a long period of time. But it is still something to be careful about.

I did not realise that by not sleeping one could increase the risk of having diabetes. According to NHS.UK, “Studies have suggested that people who usually sleep less than 5 hours a night have an increased risk of developing diabetes.

It seems that missing out on deep sleep may lead to type 2 diabetes by changing the way the body processes glucose, which the body uses for energy.”

For me, sleep is like pressing the reset button every night before each day. If you are not resetting all the way, your body will feel the effects.

Thus it is more important than ever to try and get those REM cycles in as much as you can.

It can be easy to forget that every action we make has consequences. But we’re only given one body and it’s time we learn to rest. It is an important part of everyday life and everyone need to take it more seriously. Being on our phones all day cannot be the only way to live.

Limit your screentime every night, making sure you are giving yourself time to fall asleep without the glare of the phone light staring at you. Encourage better behaviour when it comes to sleep and you will avoid these dangerous side effects.

Do you get your full 8hours of sleep? How many hours of sleep do you get?
